Kanaval 2018 Theme “Ayiti Jan l Dwe Ye”

Haiti's famous annual kanaval is scheduled to take place beginning Sunday February 11 and ends on Tuesday February 13, 2018. The theme is "Ayiti Jan l Dwe Ye", one which highlights recycling, environmental protection and improvement of the country's image domestically and abroad.

Port-au-Prince, Haiti (November 11, 2017) In preparation for the carnival of the year 2018 which will take place from Sunday 11 to Tuesday 13 February 2018, the Administration Communale of Port-au-Prince organized at the premises of the Town Hall on Friday, November 10, 2017 a round table around theme of the carnival 2018.

At the invitation of Mayor Ralph Youri Chevry to several artistic and cultural sectors and to the Ministries of Culture and Tourism, the following personalities answered the call and participated in this round table: Ralph Allen, Mario Benjamin, David Charlier, Jean-René Delsoin, Fred Hype, Haze Sylvester, Joseph Merline and Tamara Philippeaux. The Director General of the Town Hall, Anne-René Louis, Cultural Affairs, Roxane Ledan and External Cooperation, Alexa Louis and representatives of the diaspora also took part in this round table.

At the end of the discussions and discussions held at this round table, participants agreed on the following theme of the 2018 Carnival: “AYITI JAN L DWE YE”. They also decided that the 2018 Carnival will be geared towards the topic of “recycling”.

This round table, held exactly three months before the first bold day, represents an initial step towards the restructuring of the carnival machine in order to give creators time to work their works in accordance with the chosen theme.

Beyond the environmental aspect, the participants of the round table wish that through the carnival 2018 the different kinds of creations related to it are inspired by the following points:

1- Recycling for local development

2- Protection of the environment

3- Improving the image of our country

The Communal Administration of Port-au-Prince renews its determination for the organization of an inclusive and innovative carnival likely to allow national development.
